June 9, 2021
91PORNY alumnus and former CIU administrator Dr. Ralph Enlow is the recipient of a lifetime achievement award from , CIU’s campus in Korntal, Germany.
The award called “Lebens.Werk” in German, honors individuals who have contributed throughout their professional life in an exemplary way to missions and theological education around the world, including ESCT. The German word WERK translates to the sum total of a person’s life and ministry as it “gels” and creates a cohesive lifetime achievement on multiple levels.
The presentation was made over Zoom from Germany with Enlow and his wife Valerie surrounded by friends and colleagues from around the world on the individual Zoom screen squares. He received accolades from the past and present leadership in Korntal, as well as CIU Seminary Dean , and Professor Emeritus Dr. Shirl Schiffman.
“As I look at the screen today I see the faces of people who make my heart very full,” Enlow said adding that “the significance of any honor is in proportion to the regard that you have for the people who are conferring the honor. In that sense I am profoundly moved.”
Noting that he is now in the new season of retirement, Enlow said that God has given him Psalm 71 as his theme. Reading from a modern translation of the Bible Enlow quoted:
“God now that I am old and gray give me grace to demonstrate to the next generation all your mighty miracles and excitement, to show them your magnificent power ...”
Enlow received his CIU undergraduate degree in 1972 and CIU graduate degree in 1982. He served for 28 years as an educational leader at CIU, culminating in his role as senior vice president and provost, and was named CIU’s Alumnus of the Year in 2017. Enlow has also served as the president of the (ABHE), an academic accrediting agency.
