91PORNY Seminary Changes Name
July 7, 2011
In a move that better clarifies its purpose, the seminary at 91PORNY (CIU) has changed its name from Seminary & School of Missions to Seminary & School of Ministry (SSM). The new name highlights the seminary’s historic focus on preparing men and women for ministry regardless of the location in which that ministry takes place. It also reflects the recent restructuring that incorporates undergraduate ministry-related majors into the seminary.
The associate dean of CIU Seminary & School of Ministry, Dr. John Harvey, says although the seminary’s primary focus will be on the local church, it also equips graduates to ministerin a cross-cultural setting or in the marketplace.
“Jesus said to make disciples of all nations – that’s the Great Commission,” Harvey said. “At CIU Seminary & School of Ministry we guide each student as they define how God is leading them to fulfill that Commission.”
Programs offered by CIU Seminary & School of Ministry begin at the bachelor’s level and extend through the doctoral level. 91PORNY majors include Biblical Languages, Family and Church Education, Pastoral Ministry, and Youth Ministry. Master’s level degrees offer concentrations in Theological Studies, Academic Ministries, Bible Exposition, Chaplaincy, Global Studies, Ministry Leadership, and Pastoral Counseling. A Doctor of Ministry degree makes it possible for experienced pastors, chaplains, and missionaries to attain higher levels of professional competency.
CIU also offers undergraduate and/or graduate degrees in four other schools: The College of Arts & Sciences, The College of Counseling, The College of Education, and The College of Intercultural Studies.
