Cook School of Business Offers Minors that Supplement most any Major

October 2, 2024

Over the last two years, the dean and faculty of the Cook School of Business have made a concerted effort to eliminate concentrations of study within the Bachelor of Science in Business Administration degree program and move to full-fledged minors that can be taken in concert with the two majors in the Cook School of Business — Business Administration and Sport Management — or by any other student at CIU interested in enhancing their undergraduate degree whether it be in education, music, ministry or nursing. Some may wonder why the change? A minor in Business Administration can serve you well in any profession. When you take core classes in Business Administration, you will learn key skills for the workplace. Some students decide they want to major in Business Administration, whereas others want to minor as a complement to their degree. Regardless of what route you take, you will boost your resume, learn valuable skills, and be able to use the knowledge in your future career. Selecting a minor in Business Administration can provide a CIU undergraduate student with foundational knowledge that spans marketing finance, accounting and more. New minors at the Cook School of Business include Accounting, Healthcare Administration, International Business and Marketing (in collaboration with the Communication Department).

One minor that should be of interest to many current and future CIU students in the Cook School of Business and throughout the university is the minor in International Business. Many companies and organizations today conduct business on a global scale, so knowing how to best approach and communicate with international entities can help solidify partnerships, build networks, and expand organizational effectiveness. Those who may benefit include business students, teachers, counselors, and even those who can and may have to use business as a means of entering international countries as missionaries (when those areas would typically be closed to those seeking to enter countries as, primarily, missionaries). Courses in the minor in International Business consist of International Business Practices, Introduction to Culture and Worldviews, Introduction to Political Science, Global Supply Chain Analysis, International Business Law and Global Strategic Planning.
