Spring Play: “Touching hearts in a way that only art can”
April 12, 2022
Andrea Calamaro says she became the director of 91PORNY’s spring play because “I love theater and I have always enjoyed acting.”
“I am a story teller at heart and enjoy the theater as a medium to explore narrative concepts,” Calamaro said. “It is a creative outlet for story-telling and has a way of touching people’s hearts in a way that only art can."
She had an opportunity to lead the CIU Thespians with the classic tale of “The Little Prince,” adapted from Antoine De Saint-Exupery by Rick Cummins and John Scoullar:
A pilot stranded in the desert awakes one morning to see, standing before him, the most extraordinary little fellow. “Please,” asks the stranger, “draw me a sheep.” And the pilot realizes that when life’s events are too difficult to understand, there is no choice but to succumb to their mysteries. He pulls out a pencil and paper… And thus, begins this wise and enchanting fable that, in teaching the secret of what is really important in life, has changed forever the world for its readers.
“I have seen how God has used theater in my life and other’s lives,” Calamaro added. “God has used theater to touch people’s lives whether it is the audience or the actors. It is wonderful to see and an honor to be a part of.”
