CIU Welcomes the Class of 2023!

Over 200 new 91PORNY students started a new chapter of their story on a clear South Carolina morning when they moved onto CIU’s campus.
“Move in day is the best day of the year! The campus comes to life, and I’m reminded of the purpose of why I am here,” said , dean of the College of Arts & Sciences. “We are here for the students.”
On what can be an anxious day for new students and their families, they received a friendly welcome from CIU staff and upperclassmen.
“Everyone’s been extremely welcoming,” said freshman Michal Johnson from Augusta, Georgia. “People have been helpful carrying things and letting us know what to do next.”
Several parents noted the smooth move in process.
“The welcoming feeling is amazing,” said mom Yvonne Livsey of Atlanta who was accompanying her freshman son Kolby. “We moved in record time, about 15 minutes, if that.”
After playing baseball for 15 years before coming to CIU, Kolby Livsey said he’s looking forward to playing at the collegiate level on in school history.
Freshman Abby Carlson, who will study , described being excited and nervous at the same time.
“I’m looking forward to what CIU will bring me,” Carlson said.
During the energy-packed day, new students did a lot. Starting with check-in, lunch in the a time of worship and a formal welcome, and meeting their Welcome Week small group. They ended the day cheering on the in their match with the Newberry Wolves.
“Everything we’ve seen is God-focused and God-centered,” said Breanne Nelson’s dad, Steve Nelson.
Her mom Deana added, “While she is here at CIU, I hope she continues to grow in the Lord and see the path He has for her through interactions with professors and peers.”
Standing in front of Shortess Chapel with a tender look in their eyes, mom Nelson added, “It’s been a sweet and unrushed day.”
told the new students and their families that CIU is about investing in the whole person, and committed $35 million toward improvements over the last two years to make CIU the best experience possible.
The incoming freshman are embarking on a journey to graduate in 2023, CIU’s centennial anniversary.
